Virginia Spiderwort, Tradescantia virginiana, is a versatile wildflower equally at home in the meadow and the backyard garden. Spiderwort is a long-blooming perennial which flowers non-stop for months, even though each bloom lasts only one day. It can reach 3 feet in height in sunnier locations and is partially prostrate in shady woodlands. Each flowerhead typically bears up to 20 blue/purple flowers which are attractive to bumblebees, carpenter bees as well as Halictid bees and pollinating flies.
