Monarda punctata, known as spotted beebalm or spotted horse mint, is a common sight at Glenstone. Growing 2-3 feet tall in dry meadow soils as well as garden beds, Monarda punctata has extremely high wildlife value. It is rich in floral resources, attracting native and honey bees, butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. Song and game birds feed on the seed produced by the spotted beebalm. It has sometimes been used to treat insect bites and stings, hence its common name "bee balm".
