In Bloom: June through October
An elegant bog plant growing in the Water Court, purple thalia is a tall aquatic marginal with blossoms that stand high above the ovate foliage. Often grown in long rows, like at Glenstone, purple clusters of flowers burst at the point of the flower stems and are long lasting and attractive to pollinators. Its rigid stems are quite sturdy and hold up against piling snow and ice throughout the winter. Native to North America, purple thalia is also known as hardy canna, part of a genus of plants that add bold texture to any garden.
