Amsonia hubrichtii, narrowleaf blue star, was discovered in the 1940s in the Ouachita mountains of Arkansas and Oklahoma, but its range now extends north into a few counties of Maryland and Pennsylvania. Amsonia thrives in Maryland and is a standout in wildflower meadows and urban gardens owing to its large blue-lavender blooms in spring, green foliage in summer, golden foliage in fall, and interesting seed heads during winter. Glenstone has mass plantings of blue star behind the Café and along the path near Tony Smith's Smug, 1973/2005, as well; it can also be found along Heizer Overlook and the path between the Arrival Hall and the Pavilions.
