Mantis

Mantodea

For their small size, mantises are jam-packed with abilities that rival your favorite superheroes—or villains. As ambush predators, mantises’ diverse camouflage hues range from fallen-leaf brown to orchid-pink across 2,400 species worldwide. Some species are so adept at camouflage that they are able to change colors to better blend in with their environments. Since the grays you see at Glenstone do not feature in these garden guardians’ palette, you can easily spot them in our Water Court where their prey, the grasshopper, lies in abundance.
