Goldenrod

Solidago spp.

Location: Meadows, Woodland Trail, Pavilions Greenroof, Arrival Hall
In Bloom: August through October
Most plants in the meadows around Glenstone were intentionally seeded to shape the native landscape. However, goldenrod is a self-seeder and established itself in the meadow on its own. This perennial is part of the sunflower family (Asteraceae) and blooms late in the year from August to October. Thanks to their rhizomes, a root-like stem that spreads the plant’s reach further from under the soil, it is typically seen in large colonies. The late season yellow flowers provide both a beautiful fall landscape and give pollinators such as bees and butterflies an ample food source before winter.
