In Bloom: April and May
Golden ragwort (Packera aurea), a wildflower native to Maryland, provides important groundcover at Glenstone. Packera forms clumps of heart-shaped leaves that grow up to two feet high with a one-and-a-half-foot spread, crowned with spikes of daisy-like flowers. Its bright flowers bloom from April through May, producing a sea of yellow when planted in the sun and striking shots of color in the shade. A versatile flower, packera tolerates wet soils, is resistant to deer, attracts pollinators, prevents erosion, and is evergreen.
