Three monumental works by British artist Tacita Dean (b. 1965) were displayed together for the first time in Room 1 of the Pavilions: Sunset, 2015; When first I raised the tempest, 2016; and The Montafon Letter, 2017. Composed of chalk on blackboards, these drawings recall the visual language of black and white film. Their fragility and ephemerality echo that of celluloid in a digital world. Affixed to the precast concrete walls of the Pavilions, these large-scale, multi-panel works created a panoramic effect as visitors roamed through the gallery space.
