Over the course of six decades, American artist, author, and activist Faith Ringgold (b. 1930) has worked in a variety of media and modes—from quilts and paintings to performance and children’s books—to convey a narrative that is as personal as it is political. Depicting the beauty and complexity of the experiences of Black Americans throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, this survey exhibition organized by Serpentine, London featured more than 70 works highlighting key moments throughout the artist’s career. Presented at the Gallery building, the exhibition included paintings, story quilts, sculptures, and political posters.
