MCPS Summer RISE
Summer RISE (Reimagining an Innovative Student Experience) is a month-long initiative by Montgomery County Public Schools, in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, and nonprofits. It provides rising juniors and seniors the chance to explore careers, build confidence in their choices, or pivot if needed. Students gain insights into organizational functions, employer expectations, and industry-specific or transferable skills.
Since 2019, Glenstone has hosted 40 students across various departments, offering hands-on experience in a non-profit cultural setting. For Summer RISE 2025, the goal is to support up to 1,000 students. You can help by becoming a Summer RISE host or sponsor to support program costs, the closing ceremony, and student materials.
Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church
The Scotland African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church was built by hand and opened in 1924 by Black congregants in Potomac. Registered as a State Historic Site by the Maryland Historical Trust, today the church is the only historic building to survive in the Scotland community.
After a devastating flood in 2019, the church began fundraising to rebuild, launching the 2nd Century Project in 2022. This $11 million campaign aims to flood-proof the site, restore the original church as a multi-use fellowship hall, and construct a new worship space to serve future generations for another century. Glenstone is one of many local community partners sharing resources, professional expertise and raising awareness about this historically significant site in our county. Glenstone is proud to sponsor the Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival, the largest Juneteenth celebration in the DMV region. Since 2023, the festival has donated a portion of its proceeds to the 2nd Century Project.
