An Introduction to Glenstone Museum 
Founded with the mission to seamlessly integrate art, architecture, and landscape, Glenstone is an art museum located on over 300 acres of rolling hills and unspoiled woodland in Potomac, Maryland. The museum, opened in 2006 and expanded in 2018, offers nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibition space to showcase its collection of more than 1300 works by 200 contemporary artists. With its expansion, Glenstone welcomes more than 100,000 visitors each year, and admission is always free. 

Position Overview  
Reporting to the Trade Supervisor, the Electrician performs operation-critical maintenance, repairs and installation of equipment that is essential to both the protection of the art collection and the safety and comfort of our staff and visitors. This position provides a unique opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility, operating and maintaining the highest quality building management and electro-mechanical systems.  
The successful candidate will be joining a team of highly motivated maintenance professionals who pride themselves on our excellent service and the ability to maintain precise conditions for Glenstone's world-class art collection.

  • Must fully understand, troubleshoot and maintain all elements of the electrical system including but not limited to lighting, receptacles, power distribution system, fault protection systems, emergency power system, UPS, Photovoltaic, digital control systems, security video and intrusion systems, fire detection systems, and utility metering. 
  • Manage and maintain the emergency generator system including paralleling systems. 
  • Maintain and conduct minor programming of Lutron lighting control systems. 
  • Maintain Simplex fire detection system.  
  • Maintain low voltage controls and electrical systems. 
  • Support the Collections Division with art installations and deinstallations. 
  • Utilize the Building Management System (BMS) to monitor all building systems. 
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to receive, track and create work orders as well as manage parts inventory. 
  • Must be familiar with local, state and national codes as they pertain to specific tasks being executed. 
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of system operations, building plans and working drawings. 
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices. 
  • Thorough understanding of the care and safe use of hand and power tools. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft office. 
  • Possess excellent communications and customer service skills 
  • Assist other trades with the installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment. 
  • Operates and maintains tools and equipment common to various skilled trades. 
  • Observes all common safety practices. 
  • Assists in the coordination, supervision and monitoring of work performed by outside contractors. 
  • Ability to work independently without supervision. 
  • Ability to work extended hours to complete projects. 
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies when required. 
  • Participate in “on call” roster 
  • Operates a variety of light and medium equipment as necessary (with training) such as forklift, Bobcat, and elevated work platforms. 
  • A variety of professional training is provided and mandatory including but not limited to Confined Space, Fall Protection, CPR, Hot Work, Lock Out Tag Out. 
  • This position is considered Essential as defined in the Glenstone Employee handbook and may be recalled to the site during inclement weather events and emergencies. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Required Qualifications 
  • High school graduate or equivalent. 
  • Able to read and understand architectural, mechanical and electrical drawings. 
  • Minimum of 5 years in similar position. 
  • Valid MD, VA or DC driver’s license. 
  • Journeyman Electrical License. 

Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to access all areas of buildings, grounds, public and “behind the scenes” areas located across a 300+ acre site. 
  • Capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor. 
  • No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement (which cannot be corrected with appropriate devices), which would interfere with ability to work. 
  • Able to safely lift a load of 40 pounds and carry over a distance of 20 feet. 
  • Able to access heights and confined spaces. 
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions. 
  • Able to remain on feet for long periods, climb stairs, ladders, bend and stoop.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Maryland Master Electricians License 
  • NICET certification

Wage range: $38.50 - $42.50 per hour
