American photographer William Eggleston is widely known for elevating color photography to an artform, rendering seemingly mundane views of the American south with vibrant hues and subtle framing. Eggleston’s slice-of-life images demonstrate the beauty in the ordinary; he thinks of his works as providing a “democratic” view of the world. Frequent subjects include cars and advertisements, often composed to highlight complementary or pastel colors. The works in Glenstone’s collection, mostly dating from the 1960s and 1970s, allow us to bask in the simple beauty of the world through the artist’s eye.
