American artist Walter De Maria blurred the boundaries of Minimalism, Land art, and Conceptual art. He used repetitive numerical formulas to create spatial configurations of objects using a variety of materials including earth, marble, stainless steel, and granite. The 5-7-9 Series, 1992–1996, in Glenstone’s collection, consists of 27 unique sculptures in each possible configuration of polygonal five-, seven-, and nine-sided forms. These elements can be displayed in three uniform rows or one long row. De Maria avoided speaking about the meaning of his artwork and desired viewers to have open, spontaneous experiences.
