German artist Reinhard Mucha’s oeuvre confronts the norms and institutional practices of contemporary art. Mucha designs meticulous and captivating large-scale installations that obscure and omit information, which, according to the artist, is akin to dealing with German bureaucracy. Incorporating found objects into his work, Mucha removes much of their function but reveals histories held within their forms. When situating his installations within a museum environment, Mucha turns attention to the museum and how viewers experience it, stating, “If you look at one of my pieces, you always look into the museum, into the idea of a museum.”
