Nick Cave

b. Fulton, MO, 1959

Nick Cave is an American sculptor who works across a range of media, combining elements of fashion, sculpture, performance, and immersion to challenge conceptions of race, violence, and identity. Utilizing materials as varied as bronze, wood, and fiber, he bridges craft traditions with fine art. Cave is best known for his revolutionary Soundsuits, objects of presence and power made from an amalgam of craft materials, some of which can be activated by dancers as part of an elaborate performance.
