Photographer LaToya Ruby Frazier carefully documents the American experience through an empathetic and sensitive lens. Heavily influenced by documentarians of the 1930s, Frazier incorporates social justice and storytelling into her photography, video, performance, and installation. Her work leans heavily on autobiography, often highlighting the experiences of three generations of Frazier’s family in her deindustrialized hometown of Braddock, Pennsylvania. Through black and white photography, Frazier calls attention to disparaging inequities and injustices experienced by Black Americans from the early 2000s to present day.
