Larry Bell

b. Chicago, IL, 1939

Emerging from the Los Angeles art scene of the 1960s, American artist Larry Bell is notable for making sculptural work that intersects light, space, and geometry. From very simple designs to bold uses of color, Bell experimented with a range of materials including wood, metals, glass, and irregularly shaped canvases. He is best known for glass sculptures made in shades of red, orange, blue, and black, shaping and coloring diffuse light with the use of thin metal films sealed to the surfaces of the glass.
