Jaune Quick-to-See Smith was a Native American visual artist and curator. She was born at the St. Ignatius Mission on the Flathead Reservation in Montana. As an enrolled Salish member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Nation, Smith’s artwork is heavily influenced by Indigenous practices that span environmental, familial, and political actions. Smith used her art as a platform to voice her beliefs and as a tool for storytelling. Drawing inspiration from her homeland and surrounding tribes, a key purpose of Smith’s practice is to build a cultural bridge between herself and her audience, bringing attention to issues that impact her community, in efforts to create solutions, dialogue, and healing.
